A Change
Effort Fails for Human Reasons.
Employees may...
• See no need for the effort
• Misunderstand their role in it
• Believe that they can ride it out until things "get back
to normal"
• Resist it because new responsibilities were forced upon them
• Ignore it because they were never asked for their opinions
• Ignore it because they had their opinions dashed
While these may be “soft” reasons for failure, they have hard
consequences to the organization in terms of productivity lost and money
burnt. The best way to make change happen -- indeed, the only reliable
way -- is for leaders and workers to come together, understand each others'
positions, and use the unique knowledge in the room to drive the effort.
This is where we at The Axelrod Group can
help.
We design collaborative systems which enable leaders
and workers to jointly construct a company both profitable and worthy
of pride. Some have called our practices “organizational
barn raising” because the focus and energy
shown by participants reminds them of the old-time, community barn raisings,
in which neighbors would erect a sturdy building in a weekend. We like
that comparison.
When a company is focused and the system its people
work within calls for spirited involvement, remarkable things can occur
quickly. |

Follow the Calgary Health Region
as they Redesign their Physician Referral Process
The Calgary Health Region,
located in Southern Alberta, is using our engagement methodology
to involve physicians, nurses, hospital administrators, allied staff,
and patients in the redesign of the physician referral process.
The work began with core team training in May 2006, and will include
two large group conferences to be held in October 2006 and January
2007. You can follow the Referral
and Access redesign by clicking on "Invitation" once
you reach the site.
